Each year, musicians and rasikas gather at Saint Tyagaraja’s samadhi in Thiruvaiyaru on the banks of the Cauvery for the Tyagaraja Aradhana. The highlight is the mass rendition of the Pancharatna Kritis, a living tradition that celebrates classical Carnatic music where it was composed.
Held typically in Jan–Feb (Tamil month of Thai) near Thanjavur (nearest airport TRZ, rail via Thanjavur Jn.), the Aradhana features open-air kutcheris, the collective Pancharatna singing, and a devotional ambience around the samadhi. Arrive early, dress modestly, maintain silence during kritis, and plan a culture circuit with Brihadeeswara Temple and the Saraswathi Mahal Library in nearby Thanjavur.
